July 19, 2020 – For Immediate Release

Crafted by Hand CAFÉ to debut in New Haven 7/27

New Haven’s Orange District will gain a new restaurant, Crafted by Hand Café, with Chef-Owner Christopher Bateman at the helm. Scheduled to open July 27th, CBH Café, located at 167 Orange Street, New Haven, will specialize in unique all-day breakfast, artisanal tacos, sandwiches and salads.

A Connecticut local, Bateman started his career in Stamford after graduating from The Culinary Institute of America in New York in 2000. His culinary experience and travels range from Sous Chef for the Pierre Hotel 2000-2003 in New York City to Chef de Cuisine for the Four Seasons Resort in Maui 2003-2006. In 2006 he joined the Essex house NYC. He moved to Dubai for the Emirates Towers Hotel, then the pre-opening team of Jumeirah Creekside Hotel in Dubai as Executive Chef in 2011. Hawaii and the Four Seasons came calling again, and Chris returned to become Executive Chef of the Four Seasons Hualalai.

In 2014 Aaron Sanchez, judge of Master Chef and Chopped, persuaded Chris to return to Connecticut as Executive Chef of Paloma Restaurant in his hometown of Stamford, CT. Chris also consulted on various projects for well-known culinary personalities, such as Marcus Samuelsson. Chris went on to open Porron and Pina in Hartford, CT for Tyler Anderson before pursuing a solo venture.

Open 7 days a week, CBH Café hours are 8AM to 6PM and 8-3 on the weekends, and will serve breakfast and lunch, soups, and salads, with prices ranging from $5.50 for a Sunrise Quesadilla to $11.95 for Skirt Steak Salad. Sandwich offerings include Corned Beef Hash dip, Huli Huli Chicken tacos, Short Rib Grilled Cheese, among other selections that are inspired by Chef Chris’s travels.

“I’m excited to begin this new venture. New Haven has always been my favorite city in Connecticut. I feel connected to the food scene here and even more with the community after moving to East Haven last year. I look forward to serving the local community who are looking for an approachable, quality food experience.”
